1,000 trees planted in Pune, India
This week’s success story comes from Mr. Raghunath Dhole in India.
By now, Mr. Dhole is well known to our global community. We previously wrote an article about Mr. Dhole winning the state-level ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vanshree Award in India’.
We also shared an article where Hans Timpner visited India and was inspired during a meeting with Mr. Dhole.
Mr. Dhole’s project, Devrai, or “Sacred Grove” in English, recently became our partner. You can read more about our partnership here.
In December 2023, Mr. Dhole initiated another planting project in the area of Haveli, Pune, where 1,000 saplings were planted. For this planting project, the government of Maharashtra and Tech Mahindra collaborated with the Devrai Foundation.
We are told that 100 native species of 400 saplings and 35 species of 600 saplings were planted to create a Dense Forest. These species included, but was not limited to, Mangifera indica (Amba), Butea monosperma (Palas), Bauhinia purpurea (Kanchan), Saraca indica (Sita Ashok), and Cassia fistula (Bahava).
You can visit our global tree-planting map, and see the full list of species as reported by Mr. Dhole.
At the end of the planting, all the activity was dedicated to “the long life of Mother Earth, all Gurus, teachers and His Holiness The Dalai Lama.”
Thank you very much for sharing your wisdom, Mr. Dhole! We appreciate learning from you, and we look forward to many more stories from India!
