A whisper from the woods

A letter from our global director, Hans Timpner

Oct 26, 2022

Hello everybody,

As you are aware, it has fallen into my domain to run the Global Tree Initiative as the global director. So, let me first of all, thank everyone for the energy and effort that you have put into the success of this worthwhile cause initiated by Tenzin Ösel Hita back in 2019.

Hans, together with Tenzin Ösel and friends in the USA; 2019.

GTI has grown tremendously since then. There is a small group of dedicated individuals behind the scenes, keeping everything running smoothly.

We are preparing for a new phase. Global Tree Initiative, Phase Two. Firm ground for solid growth. A phase where we’ll strengthen and solidify our current projects, while working towards opening new avenues.
As you know, our annual fundraiser is just around the corner, starting November 1.

During our fundraising campaign, we’ll have two major events. On November 5 and November 12 we will have the opportunity to hear from Ven. Robina Courtin and Tenzin Ösel Hita, respectively. The importance of community building and collective action are some of the topics that will be addressed.

Please share this information with your friends, family, and local groups. Ask them to register for these talks and feel free to donate whatever amount you feel is appropriate.

Stay tuned, for we are preparing interesting content to be shared over the next few weeks. We want to show you how much we have grown, thanks to all of us! Besides, we want to give you an idea of what is coming. Exciting times are coming!

Thank you so much for all your efforts.
Together we can create a conscious, wise, warm-hearted world of peace, where people respect and live in harmony with animals and the environment.

Thanks and Saludos,
Hans Timpner

Bamboo trees are technically giant grasses. They have unique properties that make them valuable for various uses. Some store water in their stems/stalks. They make a calming sound when the wind blows through them, and they knock together. It’s so lovely.

Every individual action matters, and we can all make a difference. It’s important to support sustainable, local products whenever possible. There are even apps that rate the sustainability and eco-friendliness of the brands we choose. Palm oil production has had devastating effects on wildlife, yet many popular brands still use unsustainable palm oil. A simple step you can take today is to remind yourself to shop consciously.

The theme for this year’s World Food Day is “Right to foods for a better life and a better future”. The term “foods” stands for diversity, nutrition, affordability, and safety. The idea is that a greater diversity of nutritious foods should be available for everyone so that every single citizen has the chance to lead a balanced and nutritious life.

Do not forget that your path towards a plant-based diet will necessarily be different than that of the person next to you, and that’s okay! Respect your rhythm, respect yourself and keep it up!

The path to plant based diet

I made a decision to stop eating meat and adopt a predominantly plant-based diet after listening to a talk on veganism at the Habit Alignment Key (HAK) retreat in Bendigo, Australia, in 2023.
