A most memorable day of tree-planting
Rowena Field, our UK regional coordinator, tells us about their unique and exciting tree-planting day:
“When I planned the next tree-planting day of Jamyang Woodland for the end of November, I had no idea that we would be in the middle of storm Arwen! When the day came, the snow had already fallen on high ground. It was bitterly cold, and the strong winds meant there was a wind chill of -7 °C!”
The area where the trees were planted had no shelter from the wind, so the volunteers stayed warm by actively planting trees!
Despite the freezing, stormy weather, volunteers still showed up and they had a lot of fun. Together, they planted 245 trees. All the trees are native to the area.
Rowena tells us that it was particularly heart-warming to see three generations of one family together, all busy planting trees. After the tree-planting, they wrote a message to Rowena, thanking her for the opportunity to contribute to the environment, together as a family. They told her that it was a special day, and they enjoyed it very much!
At the end of the tree-planting event, a Tibetan lady, and her son, who drove nearly 70 miles to be there, came up to Rowena to share her experience. Rowena recalls:
“She expressed how very pleased they were to take part in the event, and how much it meant to them. She squeezed my hand and said, ‘Long Live His Holiness the Dalai Lama’ in such a heartfelt way, it brought tears to my eyes.”
Thank you for being on our team, Rowena! We appreciate your hard work and dedication. Thank you for making this happen!
A special thank you to our partner, the Jamyang Leeds Woodland Project, and all the tree-planting volunteers for making this happen!
