GTI India Prepares For Summer Planting

With Winter melting away, our team in India is preparing for their summer planting activity!

As recently advertised on the GTI India Facebook page, our team in India, in collaboration with our partner, Tree Walks, is getting ready to plant. However, this is not just ‘any’ planting – you are invited to plant and grow your own food!

Our team in India shares that “Growing and eating fresh food from our garden shows many health benefits, also due to the fact that we work with the soil with our bare hands!”

If you want to know more about the Summer Planting initiative, or if you need some advice or guidance, you can connect to our team in India through the GTI India Facebook page.

Now, what if you do not have access to a garden? Can you still plant your own foods? Yes you can!

Our tree-planting friend, Chhaya Taralekar, showed us that it is indeed possible! When our Global Coordinator Director, Hans Timpner, visited Chhaya, she showed him her garden… on the 19th floor of an apartment building in Mumbai!

Chhaya uses her kitchen waste as compost in her green center on the balcony. Here, she grows a variety of different herbs and spices, and even some trees.

Hans Timpner visited Mrs. Chhaya in India, and was amazed by her little yet magnificent kitchen garden.

“It is amazing to just walk into her place and feel the warmth and equilibrium there” Hans said.

With this inspiration, we would love to hear about YOUR planting activities. Please tell us about your work and remember to include photos, so that we can promote your story to our global community.
