Apart from restoring the mills, other restoration activities included forest preservation through the planting of native trees and bushes and the protection of wildlife through, for example, the creation of temporary ponds.

The Tibetan Community in Britain (TCB)’s Board Members for the year 2020-2022 have initiated a Tree-Planting Project in honor of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s commitment to the global environment.

Lisbon’s Psychiatric Center has accepted the Global Tree-Planting Challenge, and dedicated 10 olive trees to World Youth Day (WYD) Lisbon 2023.

These trees were planted by two different groups. Still, they tell a similar story – the tree planters gathered to spend time together in Nature and work for a “more sustainable and greener world”.

Naomi Weissler, our kind donor and tree-planting friend from the UK, tells us about an olive tree that was planted for her birthday.

A total of 30 trees were planted by students (3rd and 4th year, Faculty of Technology) of CEPT University, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, including members of Indian Plumbing Association Student Chapter.

A group from South Korea planted and dedicated 15 trees earlier this month. This was the first report coming from South Korea, making it the 65th country on our map!

In 2022, Beth Pearsall, one of our New Zealand regional coordinators, organized a tree-planting project at the Mahamudra Centre for Universal Unity.

Our tree-planting community at the Atisha Buddhist Centre, Australia, inspires us (again) with their recent planting activity! Mark and Jill, our Australian coordinators, told us that 10 Sweet Bursaria (Bursaria spinosa), which grows to about 2.5 metres height, were planted around the area of the Kadampa Stupa.

They planted a tree in their garden, and dedicated the tree to puppy Shiva. Now, they can watch both the tree and puppy Shiva grow up together!

Our friend from Global Tree Initiative UK, Paul Wielgus, shares a beautiful story with us. He tells us how he came to be involved with Global Tree Initiative and about his latest tree-planting activity, involving a “diverse bunch of willing people”.

In late January 2023, the team got together again and transformed an unmanaged plot into what soon will become a 2,000 sqm forest.

With the help of Jussa, our Zimbabwean coordinator, a tree was planted and dedicated to each of the translator assistants! The trees were planted by pupils of the Mutanda Primary school, as part of the #CatchThemYoung campaign of Manica Youth Assembly (MAYA).

Our friends in the Democratic Republic of the Congo continue with their tree-planting efforts. Ushindi Kashali, who leads a local group called ASOSOasbl, tells us about his motivation to plant trees.
