News from our Australian coordinator, Mark Allaway
This week, we share some news from our Australian coordinator, Mark Allaway, and his work at Atisha Center.
Mark tells us, “We continue to plant at the new Kadampa Stupa, Atisha Centre, Bendigo, on the lands of the traditional owners, the First Nations DjaDja Warrung People.
These plants are being placed on rock-reinforced drainage batters to the garden beds. The plant species are suited to wet conditions and will stabilize the fine clay soil which is easily eroded in flash storms. We are using plants grown from cuttings which we started less than 9 months ago.
The earlier shrub, grass, and herb plantings over the past 2 years have enabled the seeds of existing local species to germinate in our new garden beds, adding to the quick re-establishment of the local ecology.”
Mark dedicated his well-intended action to “all sentient beings on Saka Dawa, especially those experiencing violence through conflict; may they find peace, shelter, food, and security in this life and in all future lives”.
Thank you for always taking us along with you, Mark. These stories bring us closer, even though we are in different corners of the world.
