Two times 113 trees planted and dedicated, in celebration of the Dalai Lama’s life!

Today, we are happy to share this Success Story in celebration of the Dalai Lama’s upcoming birthday, on July 6.

The Dalai Lama is one of our three environmental heroes. We have been following his inspirational advice and guidance since the Global Tree Initiative started back in 2019. The Dalai Lama is considered one of the world’s most influential humanitarians, standing as a symbol of peace, non-violence, and compassionate responsibility for humanity.

Thinley Dhondup from the UK tells us about the special tree-planting done by the Tibetan Community in Britain.

He explains that «His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama has been a great advocate for sustainability and protection of the global environment. His Holiness has stated “Taking care of our planet should be part of our daily lives. We need to work together to meet the climate challenge that affects us all.” One of the ways we can fulfill His Holiness’ advice, is to plant trees.»

The Tibetan Community in Britain (TCB)’s Board Members for the year 2020-2022 have initiated a Tree-Planting Project in honor of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s commitment to the global environment. The project is also aimed to pay gratitude to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s tireless dedication to the freedom and welfare of Tibetan people. The 113 trees planted over two different sites, represent His Holiness’s reaffirmation to live over 113 years. Overall, 226 trees have been planted in West Yorkshire, England, and dedicated to the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama”

“We are very fortunate to have tree-planting advice from Rowena Field (Tibet Support Group York). Rowena is the UK coordinator for The Global Tree Initiative. As a result of Rowena’s involvement, we received an opportunity to plant 113 trees at Harewood Estate in West Yorkshire, England with the installation of a plaque dedicated to His Holiness.” Thinley says.

A very big thank you to the charity called Treesponsibility for supporting the tree-planting project, and also to Kate and Peter Ambrose for offering their land at Hebden Bridge for the planting.

And, thank you very much, Rowena, Thinley, and the Tibetan Community in Britain, for sharing this heartfelt story with us.

We wish the Dalai Lama a very happy birthday!
