We welcome Fiji to our global community!
We are very excited to share that Fiji has joined our global tree-planting community!
In August 2025, the University of the South Pacific (USP) Student (Politics) reported and dedicated more than 500 trees, taking our global tree-planting community to 68 countries, yay!
Alison Meiara tells us that this voluntary mangrove planting project is part of her Ethics & Governance course at USP in the Fiji Islands.
“While the seedlings will be used for research by a friend, I am also contributing to the wider Pacific community, as these mangroves will support studies that can benefit our societies in the future. Mangroves provide countless benefits to both people and the environment, so the key question is: how can we best restore them to ensure these benefits are preserved for generations to come?“
This is a very good question, Alison, and we are happy to do an educational article on this topic!
We thank you and the students at USP for this inspiring project, and please keep us posted on the progress of your mangrove nursery and plantations. We look forward to learning from you and to seeing how your project develops.
If anyone wants to read more about this project, have a look at the USP website.
