14 Blackwood Trees Planted at Daylesford Dharma School
This Success Story comes from Mark Allaway in Australia.
The planting in this story is an addition to the ongoing Trees For Schools project at Daylesford Dharma School.
Mark tells us that “The work of revegetation of a natural ecology continues at Daylesford Dharma School in late January 2026.
It is peak summer, with temperatures being over 30 degrees, and warmer up to 40 degrees this year. However, the weather has been kind to our newly planted areas, with high humidity and occasional light thunderstorm showers on site. We have been watering each week over the school holidays, and the ground moisture is still present. The plants are doing very well with only a handful of losses.”

Blackwood plantings
“When we created the garden beds by stripping the weed growth, we also disturbed the surface roots of the young Blackwood trees that were planted about 3 years earlier. This species is known for its sucker growth when the roots are cut or damaged. We were excited to see about 14 new seedling/sucker trees sprouting from the disturbed soil!
We have placed tree guards and continued to water them over the summer, and they have surged ahead with fresh growth and flourished. Almost ‘free’ plantings for GTI and the School.”
After the planting, the trees and the activity were dedicated to “the good health, long life, and continued teaching of HH The Dalai Lama and the swift location of the rebirth child of Lama Zopa Rinpoche in Nepal. And to all the people around the planet making a difference by planting trees for climate action.”
Yay, this is amazing, Mark! We really rejoice in these gifts of Mother Nature. Thank you for taking so much care of the trees and for telling us about this wonderful planting activity. We appreciate the reminder of Mother Nature’s generosity.
